Intermediate AA Coaching Staff
The PWHL provides alumni to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport, National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Professional Canadian Women's Hockey League, as well as the Canada women's national ice hockey team.
Bruce MacDonald - General Manager & Head Coach
Bruce has coached the Jr. Wildcats since 2012, building on a wealth of experience gained while coaching elite women’s hockey. He was named PWHL Coach of the Year in 2013-2014 setting a PWHL record with 67 regular season points. Bruce has always wanted his young female athletes to be prepared for the next level of competition and more importantly become leaders in our community.
The GM is responsible for assisting but not limited to, coach selection for POE, manage player selection process and be involved in team formation.
The GM will identify player talent and be the main contact with NCAA, USport and Hockey Canada and oversee all scouting opportunities for players within the POE.
The GM will report to the VP of Programs of the Nepean Girls Hockey Association. The association together with the GM will make every effort to develop NGHA players to have the best opportunity to make the POE teams.
Assistant Coach - Katrina Bert
Katrina is in her second year of coaching in the PWHL. She is a graduate of Lakehead University where she received a Bachelor Honour in Kinesiology and Concurrent Education, as well as Graduate Diploma in Professional Kinesiology. She is now a Registered Kinesiologist, and uses this knowledge to run off-ice conditioning for the PWHL team. While at Lakehead, Katrina played for the Women’s Hockey team where she won an ACHA National Championship in 2017 as a senior defenceman. Then while completing her Graduate Diploma, she transitioned into an assistant coaching role with the team and went on to win a second National Championship in 2018.
Katrina is Nepean Wildcats alumni and is happy for the opportunity to be able to give back to the association and game that has meant so much to her over the years.
Assistant Coach - Kevin Mason
Kevin has been coaching with the Jr. Wildcats since 2013 delivering key responsibilities in the areas of defensive skills and strategies. His coaching experience spans three decades coaching on the boys side oh hockey and includes 5 years as KMHA Coach Mentor, Head Coach at all minor hockey levels as well as Head Coach and Assistant Coach roles at the junior hockey level.
His teaching philosophy focuses on the individual players, understanding their learning style and addressing the details of the game in order to successfully execute strategy. He believes that the level of teaching and learning should have high expectations while maintaining a fun and welcoming environment.
Assistant Coach - Randy Mar
Randy has contributed to women's elite hockey in the Ottawa area for nearly 20 years, including the past six seasons as an assistant coach with the Nepean JR Wildcats. He has held coaching positions with the Ottawa Lady Senators, NCCP Capitals, and Ottawa Girls hockey clubs, and had the opportunity to be part of Team Ontario Red as they captured the National U18 Championship. He is always excited about the prospect of assisting student-athletes achieve their personal and sports goals. Randy also assists with special needs hockey through the Ottawa Bandits organization.
